Tips & Tricks
- if your exact shot isn't on the chart, extrapolate between chart values to approximate corrected distance. Avoid making steep shots as much as possible as this tends to cause errors; this will reduce your need for the chart.
- the chart is split into two pieces, pick the right chart to use by always thinking of the inclination first.
- if you need exact corrected distances, plot the profile first, then measure the horizontal distance created by the shot line.
- you can use the tick mark on either side to set azimuth or read off backsights; use which ever tick mark is closest to your azimuth so that you don't end up spinning the compass dial around and around...
- if you find the compass dial hanging off the page when you go to plot, shift the compass back onto the page and try using the opposite ruler edge to plot your shot.
